On this tour, you will also get to know the villages of the Sacred Valley of the Incas, such as Chinchero, Salt mines, Urubamba, and Ollantaytambo.

Itinerary of Sacred Valley and Machu Picchu 2 Days:

Day 1: CUSCO – SACRED VALLEY–AGUAS CALIENTES

We will pick you up at your hotel (8:00 a.m.) and travel by bus to the Sacred Valley. Upon arrival in Chinchero, we will park in the town center and visit the archaeological site and chapel, as well as the agricultural terraces. You will be able to observe the process of dyeing alpaca and llama wool. Then we will head to the archaeological site of Maras, followed by a visit to the salt mines in the town of Maras.
Afterward, we will travel to the town of Urubamba for lunch.

After lunch, we will continue our journey to Ollantaytambo, the last inhabited Inca city. There you can admire impressive stone buildings, walls, and steep terraces.

Finally, our transportation will drop you off at the train station. Once on board, the journey to Aguas Calientes will take two hours. Our staff will be waiting to accompany you to your hotel for a rest.

Day 2: AGUAS CALIENTES – MACHU PICCHU – CUSCO

This 2-day tour is the main reason you came to Peru. You will need to start off right: breakfast (5:00 a.m.) at the hotel. Then, you will board the bus that goes up to Machu Picchu, which will take approximately 25 minutes to arrive (the gate opens at 6:00 a.m.) Once there, we will have to show our passports, and depending on the circuit, they will give us some necklaces (The best circuit is the 2nd, for this, you have to book 3 months in advance).

We will go to the top, there are 4 platforms where you can take classic photos with the view of Huayna Picchu Mountain, once on the last platform the guide will give an introduction about Machu Picchu and then we will visit the most important places in Machu Picchu such as the Stone Quarry, the Temple of the Sun, the Main Square, the Temple of the Three Windows, the Inca Compass, the Sacred Rock, the Temple of the Condor, the Water Fountains, the Inca Terraces, Food Stores this is the second circuit and the best.

After touring Machu Picchu, you will have to board the bus to Aguas Calientes town and have lunch (not included) in the afternoon, board the train to Ollantaytambo town, and then take the bus to Cusco, where we will drop you off at your hotel.

*IMPORTANT:

  • Hiking up to the Sun Gate and Inca Bridge is available since JUNE 1st, 2024, and it costs $55 USD per person.
  • Return Expedition Train time depends on availability and how much in advance you have booked.
  • You can upgrade to the Vistadome Train for the following times: 2:55 pm or 3:20 pm, 4:22 pm, or 4:43 pm. The cost is $67 USD.
  • Early trains can be organized by request, and this has to be done by booking time.
  • Our package includes Circuit 2A or Circuit 2B, as long as the tickets are available.

1. How physically demanding is this trip?

This itinerary includes moderate walking and some stairs, especially at Pisac, Ollantaytambo, and Machu Picchu. If you plan to hike Huayna Picchu, expect a steep climb.

2. Do I need to book my Machu Picchu ticket in advance?

Yes! Machu Picchu entry tickets sell out quickly, especially for Huayna Picchu and Machu Picchu Mountain hikes. Book at least 2-3 months in advance.

3. Is it better to take the train or hike to Machu Picchu?

For this 2-day tour, the train is the best option. The Inca Trail requires at least 2 days for the Short Inca Trail trek.

4. What’s the best train option to Machu Picchu?
